Text Box: ADVANTAGE OF USING BEVERAGE CONDUIT

Text Box: Conduit Health Codes: Many local health codes require that remote beverage lines be enclosed within conduit to prevent vermin from infiltrating the line run causing problems to the beverage system and/or possible health hazards.
Fire Codes: Many local fire codes require that beverage lines be enclosed within conduit to prevent a potential smoke hazard if fire were to occur.
Slab On Grade: Conduit is the only practical method of installing beverage lines beneath slab on grade.
Support of Line Runs: Conduit is the best means of installing and supporting line runs beneath floors at levels above grade.
Leak Containment: Waterproof conduit will contain leaks and/or excess condensation (from refrigerated lines) from freely draining onto ceiling tiles, furniture, flooring or patrons below the suspended ceiling.
Cost Effective Installation: Conduit provides a "pathway" that allows line runs to be easily installed in a cost effective manner, provided that it is properly installed. Improperly installed conduit may require an installer to use a mechanical pulling device which may damage the tubing or insulation sleeving covering the tubing.
Replacement: Conduit provides a convenient "pathway" for new and additional beverage lines to be installed in the future.

Proper conduit installation can be assured if the general contractor is provided with the following conduit requirements on the food service drawings:
All conduits to be waterproof
All conduits to be rust proof
All conduit to be (4, 6, 8, 10) inch diameter
All bends to be long sweep (30" minimum)
All joints to be mechanical bolted system or liquidtite slip system
Tubing and bends to be ASTM-B313 and ANSI-H26 standard or better as provided by Kelly BevWay Systems Co., Chicago, IL.
Utilize the least number of bends
Do not use plumbing T's, Y's or Elbows
Install pull sleeve in accessible location approximately every 100 feet or every 3 bends, whichever occurs first
Maintain access to pull sleeves and pull boxes at least until beverage lines have been pulled and tested
Stub up 4 to 6 inches above finished floor
Deburr all sharp edges on I.D. of conduit
